Europeโs Hidden Gem: Ohrid, North Macedonia ๐ฒ๐ฐ
From Saranda, Albania ๐ฆ๐ฑ, I crossed the border into North Macedonia ๐ฒ๐ฐ And spent 4 days & 3 nights slowing down in Ohrid. From one under-the-radar country to another, From one hidden destination to the next, This journey was my most anticipated trip in Europe. Places once unfamiliar on the map ๐ Now mark my footsteps in slow travel and global exploration. Ohrid Lake is Europeโs oldest lake And the Balkansโ second-largest natural lake ๐, Straddling the Albania-North Macedonia border. Its crystal-clear waters shine in peak seasonโ Perfect for swimming under sunny skies! ๐โโ๏ธโ๏ธ I stayed in the Old Town by the lake: Mornings wandering through ancient streets ๐ , Afternoons swimming and sunbathing, Retreating to my balcony breeze when the heat rose ๐. Days melted into pure, idle bliss๏ฝ If you visit, follow this route: ๐ Upper Gate of the Fortress ๐ Church of Holy Mary Peryvleptos โช ๐ Samuelโs Fortress (Closed Mondays) ๐ฏ ๐ Church of Saint John the Theologian (Landmark church!) โจ ๐ Beach Potpesh (Swim & sunbathe ๐๏ธ) ๐ Ohrid Boardwalk (Lakeside stroll ๐) ๐ Church of Saint Sophia โช ๐ Macedonian Flag (Harbor square) ๐ฒ๐ฐ ๐ Old Swimming Court โ My absolute favorite spot! Free, uncrowded, stunning views โ swim or just soak it in. ๐๏ธ The loop takes ~3 hours with stops. I loved it so much, I walked it twice! ๐ซ The townโs lanes bloom with flowers ๐บ๐, And if time allows, explore: ๐ Old Bazaar Street โ A must-see (though touristy) with quaint shops. ๐ช #GlobeTrotting #LaviniaTravels #LaviniasGlobalJourney #HiddenGems #EuropeTravel #SlowTravelMovement #NorthMacedonia
