Europe’s Hidden Gem: Ohrid, North Macedonia 🇲🇰
From Saranda, Albania 🇦🇱, I crossed the border into North Macedonia 🇲🇰 And spent 4 days & 3 nights slowing down in Ohrid. From one under-the-radar country to another, From one hidden destination to the next, This journey was my most anticipated trip in Europe. Places once unfamiliar on the map 🌍 Now mark my footsteps in slow travel and global exploration. Ohrid Lake is Europe’s oldest lake And the Balkans’ second-largest natural lake 🌊, Straddling the Albania-North Macedonia border. Its crystal-clear waters shine in peak season— Perfect for swimming under sunny skies! 🏊♀️☀️ I stayed in the Old Town by the lake: Mornings wandering through ancient streets 🌅, Afternoons swimming and sunbathing, Retreating to my balcony breeze when the heat rose 😌. Days melted into pure, idle bliss~ If you visit, follow this route: 📍 Upper Gate of the Fortress 📍 Church of Holy Mary Peryvleptos ⛪ 📍 Samuel’s Fortress (Closed Mondays) 🏯 📍 Church of Saint John the Theologian (Landmark church!) ✨ 📍 Beach Potpesh (Swim & sunbathe 🏖️) 📍 Ohrid Boardwalk (Lakeside stroll 🌊) 📍 Church of Saint Sophia ⛪ 📍 Macedonian Flag (Harbor square) 🇲🇰 📍 Old Swimming Court — My absolute favorite spot! Free, uncrowded, stunning views — swim or just soak it in. 🏞️ The loop takes ~3 hours with stops. I loved it so much, I walked it twice! 💫 The town’s lanes bloom with flowers 🌺💐, And if time allows, explore: 📍 Old Bazaar Street — A must-see (though touristy) with quaint shops. 🎪 #GlobeTrotting #LaviniaTravels #LaviniasGlobalJourney #HiddenGems #EuropeTravel #SlowTravelMovement #NorthMacedonia
