Exceptional Provençal Cuisine in a Beautiful Setting! 🌸
We first visited Clos Maggiore years ago, and though it’s just steps from Covent Garden Station, this time we were seated upstairs—a truly enchanting space! The ceiling adorned with delicate floral arrangements, a warm fireplace glowing softly, and only six tables creating an intimate and romantic atmosphere. It felt private, serene, and worlds away from the bustling street below. 🕯️💐 They offer wonderful set lunch menus, which change depending on whether you visit on a weekday or weekend. It’s an ideal and affordable way to sample their exquisite cuisine. Paired with a glass of quality sparkling wine, it’s a delightful experience—though perhaps not for those with a very large appetite, as portions are refined rather than generous. That said, at Clos Maggiore, you’re treated to cooking of the highest standard—in quality, imagination, and presentation—all crafted from the freshest ingredients. 🥘✨ This was especially evident in the roasted cod, so fresh you could almost taste the ocean breeze. The venison was also superb—we asked for it medium-rare rather than the recommended medium, and it was cooked perfectly. Equally delightful was the salsify dish from the à la carte vegetarian menu, though the portion of Jerusalem artichoke served with it was a bit modest. Perhaps the only slight letdown was the autumn leaf salad with William pear and Westcombe Dairy cheese dressing—the blue cheese flavor was quite pronounced, which may not be for everyone. Had it not been just after Christmas, with our bellies still full of festive treats, we might have been tempted by dessert. The supplement for dessert in the set menu is very reasonable, but we decided to show some restraint! 🍐🧀🥗 Service was unobtrusive and polite, though we noticed a subtle bias toward certain guests—particularly those who might be perceived as big tippers. It’s an awkward form of partiality that could make other diners feel like second-class citizens. A more balanced approach would make everyone feel equally valued. All in all, a beautiful experience with breathtaking surroundings and first-class Provençal-inspired food.
