Exclusive Interview: English Band Architects Talk Touring, Favorite NYC Memories, Some Not-So-Secret Spots & More

British band Architects ended their North American headline tour in NYC! They were touring in support of their latest album, “The Sky, The Earth & All Between.” The band has played major venues across NYC but this was one of their biggest headlining shows yet at Terminal 5! Secret NYC caught up with singer Sam Carter and drummer Dan Searle before the show to talk all things New York! Check out Secret NYC’s interview with Carter and Searle below! **What are your favorite and least favorite things about playing in NYC?** **Sam Carter:** My favorite thing is probably time with friends. We always have a couple of good friends that we don’t get to see much. The worst thing is it’s normally like a drop and go from memory. **Dan Searle:** I think for us, being British and actually more of the case as we get older, that you appreciate coming to these places. It’s an iconic city, so getting to come here, it feels like you’re stepping into the TV, because you get brought up on one of these shows, and everything is here. You just appreciate it. You get dropped, you wake up, and you know, we literally woke up on the bus in Times Square! You get to go for a walk around Central Park, have a coffee, and see our friends, that’s a really cool way to start the day. **Do you have any favorite spots in New York?** **SC:** The [coffee space](https://secretnyc.co/best-coffee-shops-nyc/) in Central Park that we went to today is our secret spot. [Laughs] Just outside, it’s the one in the middle; it’s five minutes away from the Dakota [jokingly says]. **DS:** You knock four times on the door and then whistle, and they let you in. **SC:** The last time I was here, I did go to a few [record stores](https://secretnyc.co/best-record-stores-in-nyc/), but they were all like pretty well-known record stores. There’s nothing really secret about Rough Trade; everyone knows about it. **We love Rough Trade! What do you like to eat when you stop in NYC?** **DS:** We love [sushi everywhere](https://secretnyc.co/best-sushi-nyc/). We ate sushi at Blue Ribbon, it was good. **What are some memorable moments you’ve had in NYC?** **DS:** I did too many mushrooms in [Times Square](https://secretnyc.co/best-things-to-do-in-midtown-manhattan/) at night, years ago. It was a lot of fun, I didn’t remember much of the night because I definitely did that. Although they say you should take mushrooms in places of extraordinary, natural beauty and I think Times Square qualifies as that, you know? **SC:** The first time we played here, it was with Suicide Silence at [Irving Plaza](https://secretnyc.co/best-music-venues-in-nyc/). Our manager, who we still have now, it was the first time he came to see us. I felt like we needed to put on a really good show to impress him. I remember climbing on the amp, I’m like at the top of the speaker, and then once I got up there, I was like, ‘I don’t know what the f— I’m going to do now!’ I had to just jump off.I was up there and was like, ‘This is going to end badly, but it was okay.’ But yeah, I remember an important show that first time we were here and just like seeing the Empire State Building and stuff. **DS:** The first time we toured the US, we were eating off the McDonald’s dollar menu twice a day at that point. **What does [England](https://secretnyc.co/little-britain-nyc/) do better than NYC?** **SC:** You know, maybe England probably does football [soccer] better than New York? I think our football teams might be better than your football teams, but your baseball teams are probably better than our baseball team, you could smash us at every other sport. **What’s something that NYC does better than England?** **SC:** The pizza. We’ve had a good pizza here, and we’re going to have some friends point us in the right direction. I feel like this is the pizza mecca, isn’t it?
