The Dakota building is a historic luxury apartment building located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Built in 1884, the building was designed by architect Henry J. Hardenbergh and is named after the Dakota Territory, which was the home of many of its earliest residents.

The building's red-brick exterior is decorated with ornate terracotta sculptures and gargoyles, while its interior features a grand lobby and spacious apartments with high ceilings, fireplaces, and panoramic views of Central Park.

The Dakota is perhaps most famous for being the home of several notable residents, including former Beatle John Lennon, who was shot and killed outside the building in 1980. The building has since become a cultural icon, appearing in films such as "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Royal Tenenbaums."

Today, The Dakota is still a sought-after address for wealthy New Yorkers, with apartments selling for millions of dollars and maintaining its place as one of the city's most...

The Dakota ⠀ An up-scale apartment building in Upper West Side in NYC. One of the landmarks of the city. Designed by Henry Janeway Hardenbergh in 1880 and fully completed in 1884. It is located at Central Park West and 72nd Street. ⠀ Hardenbergh left a remarkable imprint on the face of the city. Most of his legacy has been demolished, however, he is mostly famous for block of flats and hotel buildings. ⠀ There are 65 flats in the Dakota. Each is unique. Inly residents are let in. The building is of German Renaissance Architectural style. ⠀ Among the Dakota dwellers were the famous Oko and John Lennon, and even Rudolf Nuriyev, a Russian ballet dancer. ⠀ *They say there is a ghost vagabonding about...
