Experience Helsinki's Oldest Food Market
๐บ Search for Vanha Kauppahalli on Google Maps ๐ต๐ณ The average cost is 20-30 euros per person. It's best to use a chip card or a contactless payment method, as strip cards are not very useful and payments over 50 euros require chip insertion (no wireless payment). โณ Operating hours: 8:00-18:00, closed on Sundays, so don't go on an empty stomach! ๐ Recommendation: Soppakeittio Tapaste oy, a famous soup shop with internal seating, and their logo even says "soup + more." This century-old farmers' market has become a dining hall for locals and a must-visit spot for tourists. The interior space is long and narrow, with two north-south aisles accommodating four rows of shops, and some merged seating areas in the middle for diners. The location is very central, near Helsinki's harbor, within walking distance from the city center. Outside, there's a market square with an atmosphere reminiscent of Korean food stalls. Inside, there are also wine shops ๐ท, coffee shops โ๏ธ, and public seating areas. Many shops offer tastings, so you can buy more if you like. Plus, every shop provides packaging services, so you can enjoy your food back at the hotel at your leisure ๐ฆ. In addition to the ubiquitous salmon, caviar, and crayfish ๐ฆ, there are also bear meat ๐ป, venison ๐ฆ, and other meats that you wouldn't normally try (I didn't try them due to concerns about taste). ๐ Most seafood dishes are paired with rye bread, which is very filling and has a unique sourness that complements seafood perfectly. The crayfish here are also magical, served in a salad-style manner. All seafood is very clean and fresh, well-handled, so you can safely eat it raw without any discomfort. The overall environment is odor-free, and the public restrooms are regularly cleaned, providing peace of mind. #SceneryAlongTheJourney #Helsinki #Finland #DailyFragmentPLOG #NoteInspiration #EleventhTravelDiary #Travel #EatPlay #NordicTravel #Tourism
