🎭 Experience the Medieval Carnival of Venice

Every spring (after Christmas and before Easter), Italy comes alive with numerous carnival festivities. In the Bresciasa Valley, located in Bagolino, there's a secluded little village that hosts one of the oldest and most important carnivals in Northern Italy—the Bagolino Carnival (il Carnevale di Bagolino), which dates back to the Middle Ages. Dancers don masks and, accompanied by passionate music, perform clumsy and quirky dances all day long, often playfully interacting with passersby. Both the music and the costumes, as well as the headdresses, have been passed down since the 16th century. Unlike other music in Northern Italy, the music of the Bagolino Carnival has more of a German and Austrian influence. This secluded town, far from main transportation routes, has managed to preserve the medieval music and dances in their original form.
