🌷✨ Exquisite Provençal Cuisine in a Truly Enchanting Setting!
We recently returned to Clos Maggiore – just steps away from the Covent Garden tube station – and experienced pure magic, this time on the upstairs floor! While our first visit was on the ground level, this time we were seated upstairs, and oh, what a dreamy atmosphere! 💐🪞 The ceiling was adorned with breathtaking floral arrangements, creating an intimate and romantic vibe far from the gaze of passersby. The second floor features only six tables and a cozy, warm fireplace – absolute perfection for a special lunch or dinner. 🔥👌 They offer fantastic set lunch menus that change depending on whether you visit on a weekday or weekend. It’s an ideal and affordable way to sample their culinary artistry! Paired with a glass of quality sparkling wine, the experience is nothing short of sublime. 🥂😉 Just a little heads-up: the set menu might not be for those with a huge appetite, as portions are refined rather than large. But at Clos Maggiore, what you do get is cooking of the highest standard – in quality, imagination, and presentation – all crafted from the freshest ingredients. 🍴🎨 This was especially evident in the Grilled Cod – so fresh you could almost taste the ocean breeze! 🌊🐟 The Venison was also superb; we requested it medium-rare instead of the recommended medium, and it was cooked to tender, juicy perfection. Another delight was the Salsify, a vegetarian dish from the à la carte menu, though it was slightly let down by a modest portion of Jerusalem artichokes. 🦌🍯 If there was one slight letdown, it was the Autumn Leaf Salad with William pear and Westcombe Dairy cheese dressing. The powerful blue cheese flavor may not be for everyone – and it certainly took center stage.🧀🍐 Had it not been right after the holidays (and all those Christmas puddings!), we might have been tempted by dessert – the supplement for the set menu sweets is very reasonable. But we bravely resisted… this time! 🎄🍮 Service was unobtrusive and polite, though we did notice a subtle bias toward certain diners – perhaps those perceived as “big tippers.” It’s an awkward and unfair imbalance that could make other guests feel like second-class visitors. A restaurant of this caliber should make everyone feel equally valued. 👀💔 Still, a magnificent experience overall! Highly recommended for a romantic meal, celebration, or whenever you wish to be swept away by the taste and charm of Provence. #ClosMaggiore #ProvencalCuisine #RomanticDining #CoventGarden #SetMenu #FineDining
