Falling in Love with Austin: The Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum
If you asked me which place in Austin captivated my heart the most, it would undoubtedly be the Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum—a hidden gem where I lingered for hours, deeply moved by nearly every sculpture. This tranquil, nearly tourist-free sanctuary blends art seamlessly with nature. Bronze figures stand among lush trees and a gentle creek, where birds perch on a statue’s ankle, and stone benches appear as if they grew from the forest floor. The angel’s wings, the yearning for flight, the mother’s downcast eyes on the brochure—each piece left me in quiet awe. A Legacy of Art & Generosity Forty years ago, renowned American sculptor Charles Umlauf and his wife Angeline donated their home, studio, and 168 sculptures to the city of Austin. In 1991, the city, with private funding, transformed this space into a museum and garden to honor their gift. Why Visit?
