France Travel | Delicious Alsatian Cuisine in the Town of Colmar 🇫🇷

On the 7th day of our European road trip, we set off early from Zermatt, Switzerland🇨🇭, crossing the border to the charming town of Colmar in eastern France. The total drive took 4.5 hours. 🚗💨 This post will focus on the best Alsatian restaurant we tried in France, **Le Fer Rouge** (since we only stayed one night in France, this was the only restaurant we visited 🍽️). Look out for more detailed travel guides on Colmar in the next few days! **Dish Recommendations** 🍳: - **Foie Gras with Warm Red Wine and Fig Jam**: Served with bread 🥪, this dish was the highlight of our dinner. The foie gras was incredibly smooth and delicate. Paired with the tangy fig jam, the flavors were rich and layered. 😋 The fig jam’s sweetness and slight acidity perfectly balanced the richness of the foie gras. I’d give it 4.5 out of 5 (the red wine sauce could have been more aromatic). - **Thyme-Honey Glazed Pork Knuckle with Potatoes** 🥔: Special mention goes to the potato chunks! They were slightly crispy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside, and fully absorbed the flavors of the pork knuckle sauce. The main star, the pork knuckle, was also excellent. The skin was perfectly crispy, and the meat was tender. Remember to eat it hot! The skin gets hard and a bit fishy when cold. It’s still delicious but loses a bit of its charm. I’d give it a solid 4 out of 5. - **Pineapple Juice and Aperitif Champagne** 🥂: The pineapple juice 🍍 (marked as a peach 🍑 on the glass) was just a regular bottled juice—nothing extraordinary but good for cleansing the palate. The beer 🍻 ordered by the table next to us was highly recommended as a great accompaniment to the meal. Those who enjoy drinking might want to give it a try! **Dining Experience** 👩🏻‍🍳: There were quite a few flies around. If that bothers you, you can ask the host to seat you indoors. 🦟 Reservations are highly recommended. I was lucky to walk in at 6:30 p.m. and get a table. The waitress joked that we were lucky to be the first to arrive, or we might not have gotten a seat. Overall, aside from the slightly long wait for the dishes, the service and food were very satisfying. After dealing with high prices in the US🇺🇸, dining in Europe feels like a bargain! A full meal of French cuisine for less than $30 per person. If you ever visit the beautiful town of Colmar, consider adding this restaurant to your list! 🥩 #BudgetFriendlyEating #RestaurantRecommendation #OffTheBeatenPath #TravelDiary #FrenchCuisine #FranceTravel #Colmar #HiddenGemRestaurant #TravelFood
