Free Shakespeare Shows In San Francisco Parks Are Back For 2025 — Here’s What To Know
The 43rd year of free Shakespeare performances has officially returned to the Bay Area, with the first round of free performances starting over Labor Day weekend. The free Shakespeare festival will perform in several parks throughout the Bay Area, including McLaren Park and Sui Bierman Park in San Francisco. This year’s show is comedy *The* *Two Gentlemen of Verona,* directed by Ely Sonny Orquiza. McLaren Park: * Saturday, Sept 6 at 2 pm * Sunday, Sept 7 at 2 pm Sue Bierman Park * Saturday, Sept 13 at 2 pm * Sunday, Sept 14 at 2 pm * Saturday, Sept 20 at 2 pm * Sunday, Sept 21 at 2 pm The play is approximately 90 minutes long , and follows two men traveling from a small town in the midwest to California. The Two Gentlemen of Verona is one of Shakespeare’s oldest plays, and the adaptation will include all the same themes and comedy as the original. The performances are open to all, and there is no need to get tickets in advance. About the SF Shakespeare Festival --------------------------------- The Shakespeare Festival believes that the iconic plays should be experienced in a communal setting, and aims to help people continue to enjoy the iconic works through free performances. The festival began in 1983, when the nonprofit first performed *The Tempest*. The organization is also involved in arts education, performing hour-long shows in schools across the state, eventually leading to a Shakespeare camp.
