My family and I recently spent an afternoon at Sue Bierman Park, and we loved it! This 5.3‑acre green space on the Embarcadero is a fantastic retreat from the hustle of downtown. The well‑mowed lawns are ideal for lounging with a picnic blanket or reading under the sun .
The park features a well-maintained, gated, pirate‑themed playground that my kids couldn’t get enough of. With a climbing dome, two play structures (complete with slides, rope ladders, monkey bars, baby swings, teeter‑totter, spinning cup)—and even a boat‑shaped fort—the playground caters perfectly to toddlers through age‑12 kids.
One of the coolest surprises? The huge water fountain that you can walk under and climb around—definitely a fun photo op! .
Its location is unbeatable: right across from the Ferry Building, so you can grab coffee or a snack, then stroll or relax in the park surrounded by gorgeous waterfront views and the Bay Bridge skyline .
👍 Pros:
Spacious, clean, and scenic lawns
Fantastic, secured playground with loads of equipment
Iconic water feature and panoramic waterfront vistas
Easy access to the Ferry Building amenities
👎 Cons:
Limited shade—especially on hot afternoons
No restrooms directly in the park (Ferry Building is your best bet)
Insider Tip: Arrive earlier in the day to beat midday sun and enjoy some time under the trees before it...

Just took the ferry to the city from the east bay? Want to explore a little? Across The Embarcadero is Sue Beirman Park full of grassy lawns, a huge water fountain, and a playground. The playground is gated and has two structures, a giant climbing dome (with lope ladders and more), swings (bucket and standard), teeter totter, and spinning cup. The smaller structure is shaped like a boat! There is a slide, steps, rope ladder, hammock underneath, a look out deck up top with wheel and binoculars, and benches inside. The larger structure has a long slide and a bottomless sideless slide, steps, rock climbing, and monkey bars. Across the grass is the GIANT water fountain that you can walk under and take steps up to the top. (Definitely don’t go in the water thought 🥴) While there aren’t bathrooms close to the playground, it’s right across from the ferry building which has bathrooms as well as food and coffee options. The kids have never been to the city and it was really neat for them to see the buildings so close that we see so far away when we are exploring...
