French Restaurant + Culinary School in Phillyโ€™s University City ๐Ÿณ๐ŸŽ“

๐Ÿ“ Walnut Hill College 4207 Walnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19104 Tried this French restaurant/culinary school in University City โ€” a pretty unique experience! Knew going in that itโ€™s a cooking school where servers and chefs are students, so I braced for potential inconsistency in food and service. ๐Ÿ›Ž๏ธ Service: Some Reddit/Social media reviews mentioned poor service, but I had a good experience โ€” seems hit or miss. The restaurant is spacious with several dining areas, and it wasnโ€™t crowded, so you can take photos freely โ€” the main hall is very photogenic! ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Food: We ordered two appetizers and three mains. Flavor-wiseโ€ฆ itโ€™s inconsistent. ๐Ÿ’ฃ Avoid: ๐Ÿฅ— Vegetable Salad with Poached Egg โ€“ Too basic. Feels like something I could make at home with grocery store greens and dressing โ€” not worth ordering. ๐ŸŸ Fish Dish โ€“ The oiliest fish Iโ€™ve ever had, period. Everything, including the greens underneath, was deep-fried and swimming in oil. The server insisted it was โ€œbrown butter, not oilyโ€ โ€” yeah right ๐Ÿ˜’. Press down with a fork and oil gushes out. Also, portion was tiny โ€” thought it was an appetizer! Skip this for sure. ๐Ÿ‘ Recommended: ๐Ÿ Bolognese Pasta โ€“ Actually pretty good (though red sauce pasta is hard to mess up). The mushroom sauce on top added nice umami. ๐Ÿ– Pork Knuckle โ€“ Tender, flavorful, well-seasoned โ€” on par with German tavern versions. Wouldโ€™ve been even better with some sauerkraut ๐Ÿ˜„. Overall โ€” some hits, some major misses. Worth a visit for the experience, but choose your dishes wisely! #UniversityCityPhilly #Philly #PhillyLife #StudyAbroadPhilly #FrenchCuisine #PhillyEats
