French Restaurant + Culinary School in Phillyโs University City ๐ณ๐
๐ Walnut Hill College 4207 Walnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19104 Tried this French restaurant/culinary school in University City โ a pretty unique experience! Knew going in that itโs a cooking school where servers and chefs are students, so I braced for potential inconsistency in food and service. ๐๏ธ Service: Some Reddit/Social media reviews mentioned poor service, but I had a good experience โ seems hit or miss. The restaurant is spacious with several dining areas, and it wasnโt crowded, so you can take photos freely โ the main hall is very photogenic! ๐ฝ๏ธ Food: We ordered two appetizers and three mains. Flavor-wiseโฆ itโs inconsistent. ๐ฃ Avoid: ๐ฅ Vegetable Salad with Poached Egg โ Too basic. Feels like something I could make at home with grocery store greens and dressing โ not worth ordering. ๐ Fish Dish โ The oiliest fish Iโve ever had, period. Everything, including the greens underneath, was deep-fried and swimming in oil. The server insisted it was โbrown butter, not oilyโ โ yeah right ๐. Press down with a fork and oil gushes out. Also, portion was tiny โ thought it was an appetizer! Skip this for sure. ๐ Recommended: ๐ Bolognese Pasta โ Actually pretty good (though red sauce pasta is hard to mess up). The mushroom sauce on top added nice umami. ๐ Pork Knuckle โ Tender, flavorful, well-seasoned โ on par with German tavern versions. Wouldโve been even better with some sauerkraut ๐. Overall โ some hits, some major misses. Worth a visit for the experience, but choose your dishes wisely! #UniversityCityPhilly #Philly #PhillyLife #StudyAbroadPhilly #FrenchCuisine #PhillyEats
