Fukuoka Castle (2) π°
Across the moat lies the Fukuoka Castle Ruins, where you can see the Otemon Gate and the Shiomidai Yagura, which has been relocated next to the gate for preservation. π’π When I first saw a "yagura" at Osaka Castle, I was puzzled because in Chinese, "lu" refers to something like an oar. Later, I learned that in Japan, a "yagura" is actually one of the important ancillary structures of a castle, playing a crucial role in defense. π° A "yagura" can serve many functions, such as watching over the outside of the castle, storing weapons, and acting as a platform for launching long-range weapons. π’π It usually has an excellent view. The best-preserved "yagura" in Fukuoka Castle is the Tawaramon Yagura, located on the south side of the castle ruins and recognized as a precious cultural property of Japan. π’π The Tawaramon Yagura is a single-story building on a stone wall, combining defense and lookout functions and is an important part of the castle's defense system. πΏ #Fukuoka πΊ
