This castle ruins is just reduced to just the foundations of the original structure. I went here over the weekend and it the pre-fall time. I was only able to see some trees changing colors and some starting to fall of the branches. A portion is being used as activities ground by some students doing some school activities. To reach this place, an option is to walk from the Ohori park (visit Starbucks along the way), pass by the parking area on the left side and some picnic area on the right. Walk straight ahead and you’ll pass thru the gate. Few meters after that, cross the road and walk along the pavement on your right. Continue until you see the uphill road with steps on the sides. There were ginko biloba berries on the ground and they have this interesting and familiar smell. On the left side as you reach the top, there is a path way with cherry trees. Ahead is another set of steps where the post recommends to have photo taken. This area offers a view of the buildings and some benches under the trees. Go straight to the right side and you’ll find the stairs leading to the ruins. There you can see the boulders fitted to be the base and some remnants of...
Read moreI didn't read the description properly before I came here. It actually is a bunch of ruins, hence the name "Fukuoka Castle Ruins". Therefore there isn't really much of a castle to look at. Its a 10 min walk from Ohori park or the Ohorikoen station. The gardens and greenery on the perimeter of the castle compound are nice to look at. As for the castle ruins, there are stone walls what I suppose use to be the walls, there is a walkway installed with stairs that takes you the highest view that the castle probably would have offered where you can see a decent amount of fukuoka city. However I would have still preferred there to be a physical castle.. At the north gate just before the river there are a few guard towers which look like parts of...
Read moreA beautiful and historical site. Don’t understand why people say there’s not much to see here or complain there’s no castle - literally look at the name: “castle RUINS”, meaning there’s only the remains left that’s still preserved. It’s literally part of history, but I guess most cliché tourists are used to or prefer seeing the more known “prettier” sites in Japan. But honestly if you’re a tourist that actually wants to make the most of your trip in this city, this place is still worth visiting, especially if you are around Ohori Park or plan to go there after which happens to be a few min walk away from the castle ruins. Lovely walk as well around and take the stairs to the top to see a beautiful view of Fukuoka. Worth...
