Galle Fort | Slow Moments in the Island City

You might not imagine that on the seaside of southwestern Sri Lanka, there stands a small World Heritage-listed fort that has survived since the 16th century—this is Galle Fort.🌈🌈 👀👀Having endured colonial rule by the Portuguese, Dutch, and British, this ancient fort has preserved a blend of European and Asian architectural styles and a unique rhythm for centuries. Like its history, the wind in Galle carries a mix of the scents of seawater, black tea, and bygone days.🎆 Walking is the best way to experience Galle.😚 📍 Recommended visiting order: 1. Main Gate Reinforced by the Dutch in 1667, it remains well-preserved.🙉 2. Galle Lighthouse One of Sri Lanka's oldest lighthouses, a top spot for photos.😛 3. Clock Tower Built in 1883, it offers a view of the entire fort and the distant sea.🏝️ 4. Dutch Reformed Church Constructed in 1755, it exudes a profound sense of history and tranquility.🏜️ 5. Ramparts Walk👣👣 A path where you can stroll while overlooking the sea, the best spot to watch the sunset. 6. Unique shops/bookstores/leather notebook stores A favorite among literary enthusiasts, perfect for finding hidden gems.🤲 🧭 Practical guide (worth saving): - Recommended way to get there: Take the express train from Colombo Fort at 8:35 AM. 🍚 Tickets cost 500 rupees, available on-site without advance booking. It arrives at Galle Station around 11 AM.🍎 - Recommended return trip: Take a bus from Galle Bus Station to Makumbura or Kadawatha (about 780 rupees), a 1.5-hour ride. 🍅 Then transfer to a bus (120 rupees) or take a taxi (about 1000 rupees) back to Colombo city center.🍜 - Clothing suggestions: It's windy and sunny. Remember to bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.🍓 - Recommended stay time: 5-6 hours. Taking it slow won't feel tiring. - Recommended photo spots: The open area in front of the lighthouse / The yellow grassy slope by the fort walls / The white wall arch opposite Fort Bazaar.🍊 This was a "slow escape" from my daily study abroad life—no complicated plans, no checklist of must-sees, just the wind outside the train window and peace in my heart.🍟 Perhaps this is what life should be like—slower, lighter, but always remembering to step out and see the world.🍏 If you're in Sri Lanka, don't miss this wonderful place to slow down and daydream.😊😊 #SriLanka#StudyAbroadInSriLanka#SriLankaTravel
