Georgia 🇬🇪 Sighnaghi Town
When crossing the border from Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 to Georgia 🇬🇪, there is a relatively long buffer zone. You’ll need to carry your luggage and walk quite a distance, and it’s not even flat ground—so be prepared, folks… St. Nino’s Convent is located near Sighnaghi Town (the convent is considered part of the town and is very close). 📍 Sighnaghi, also known as the Royal Town, was the seat of the Georgian royal family in the 2nd century BC. Here, you’ll find a marriage registration office that operates 24/7, which is why Sighnaghi is also called the City of Love by locals. ⛲️ Sighnaghi Fountain, Town Opera House, Town Hall, and the sculpture of the legendary guy who sold his only house 🏠 to buy red roses to cover the ground for his beloved… 12-13 Heroes’ Wall. The ancient town wall is about 4 kilometers long in total, with several watchtowers along the way. You can climb up for a look—the view from the top is fantastic! 🌄 📍 St. Nino’s Convent is the burial place of St. Nino, who converted Georgia to Christianity. She passed away in 340 in the Kakheti region of Deboli, and the king built a tomb and a church here in her memory. The complex includes St. Nino’s Church, the Bell Tower, and St. George’s Church (a newly built church). Photography is not allowed inside any of the churches. Inside St. Nino’s Church, you’ll find icons of the Virgin Mary and Child, as well as frescoes depicting the story of St. Nino. The view of the mountains from the church grounds is absolutely breathtaking! 🏔️✨ #Travel #Georgia #SighnaghiTown #StNinosConvent #Tourism #TravelTheWorld
