Germany's stunningly beautiful small town of Monschau
A great weekend getaway in North Rhine-Westphalia! 🏞️ I visited the small town of Monschau near Cologne for a day. I've been to many small towns, but Monschau truly amazed me and could easily rank in my top three most beautiful towns. It was cloudy and rainy when I arrived, but then the rain cleared up, so I was fortunate to see the town in both overcast and sunny weather. Each has its own unique beauty. The town is not very big, with a river running through the middle, which feels very comfortable and spiritual. Walking along the river, you can see most of the main attractions. There are also many cafes in the town. If you just want to stroll around and soak in the atmosphere, half a day should be enough. Transportation: I went from Cologne and bought a 26 euro day ticket for North Rhine-Westphalia that covers all transportation. I took the RB train to Aachen station and then transferred to bus SB66 to the end of the line. Just follow the crowd and walk down to enter the town! Be sure to check the schedule as trains and buses run hourly. If everything goes smoothly, it should take about 2 hours from Cologne to Monschau. Monschau is located at the junction of Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. It's a century-old town hidden in the mountains and valleys, and its geographical location spared it from the ravages of World War II. Because of the volcanic rocks around, the buildings in the town are all silver-gray. Half of the houses are made of brick and stone, the other half of wood, with roofs covered in gray tiles or slate walls. It feels quite different from the mainstream German town architecture and has its own unique charm. In short, it's a very worthwhile weekend getaway in North Rhine-Westphalia, don't miss it! #Germany #GermanLife #GermanDaily #NorthRhineWestphalia #Cologne #CologneAttractions #NorthRhineWestphaliaAttractions
