Global Museum Recommendations 🌍🎨
🏠 Rijksmuseum Amsterdam In the history of art, there are three paintings globally recognized as the most famous (in no particular order): Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, housed in the Louvre in France; Velázquez's Las Meninas, located in the Prado Museum in Madrid, Spain (I've detailed these two museums in my previous recommendations, so feel free to check those out if you're interested); and the third is Rembrandt's The Night Watch, which is housed in the museum I'm recommending today: Rijksmuseum Amsterdam! The Rijksmuseum is the largest museum in the Netherlands, renowned for its extensive collection, particularly the masterpieces from the Dutch "Golden Age" of the 17th century. In 1795, the predecessor of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Batavian Republic, aimed to create a museum modeled after the Louvre. In 1800, the Dutch royal family established the National Gallery in The Hague to prevent the loss of its collected artworks. In 1806, the Kingdom of the Netherlands was established, and the National Gallery moved to the Royal Palace at Dam Square in Amsterdam in 1808. The newly constructed museum officially opened to the public in 1885 and was renamed the Rijksmuseum. #Art #MustVisitMuseums #Museums #NationalMuseum #PaintingLife #CulturalSightseeing #Netherlands #Amsterdam #Rembrandt
