Golden Swallow Sichuan Restaurant in Waterloo

I’ve heard so much about this place, and I finally got to check it out on its opening day! 🎉 As someone who can’t live without spicy food, I’m thrilled that Waterloo has another Sichuan restaurant to enjoy. Today, I tried the spicy chicken, scallion (I ordered it non-spicy for the kids), and saliva chicken. The saliva chicken was pretty good—there’s a nice numbing Sichuan peppercorn flavor, but it wasn’t too spicy. The chicken itself seemed to be regular broiler chicken, though it would definitely taste better if they used free-range chicken. The spicy chicken had a decent portion, and it was properly spicy and numbing—super satisfying to eat! Visually, it looks better than that other restaurant where you have to hunt for tiny meat pieces in a mountain of chili peppers. 🌶️ In the end, the scallion beef we ordered got mixed up with scallion lamb. The flavor was okay, but it was lamb rolls instead of freshly sliced lamb, which was a bit of a letdown. Overall, the portions are decent. The prices aren’t exactly cheap, but let’s be real—nowadays even a bowl of noodles or ramen isn’t cheap either. One thing I do want to mention: a bowl of rice costs $2.99. It would be great if they offered larger portions of rice! 🍚 #ChineseFood #GoldenSwallow #SichuanCuisine
