This was our first time visiting the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatatory. My husband will join us next time but I went with my two boys today. 5 years old and 18 months old. We booked our 11:00 slot online and I'm neurodiverse. I found the online ordering set up EXTREMELY user friendly and was very surprised and impressed with such reasonable ticket prices. The facility is so well set up with a beautiful lobby and lots of light. Very accessible and stroller friendly. With a more humid environment for the butterflies to thrive, I especially appreciated a 'cloak room'. The receptionist was so welcoming and kind and while my phone was being slow to pull up my reservation she found it no problem for me by my last name. She asked if I had been before and when I said no she gave me a great run down on where to go and how things work and that there's no time limit. There was a lizard out in the little room in the lobby and my 5 year old and I got to see the engaging and relational staff person and we were allowed to gently pet it and see it's blue tongue while she told us all about it. Entering the official butterfly space was like a Disney music. I have always been a butterfly person (tattoos and all). To be surrounded by so many colourful creatures was so good for my soul. With our online tickets I bought the $2.99 booklet guide for my 5 year old as he loves maps at the zoo and African Lion Safari. I'm so glad I did because it has pictures and names of each butterfly and he excitedly went on a scavenger hunt showing me all the "matches". .y 18 month rode on my shoulders and shook with joy at the magic of it all and especially loved the waterfalls. It's a truly great space and you can walk around multiple times and still see new species. The gift shop has quality products and quality tees for kids and adults. Lots of little trinkets for kids but also beautiful jewelery for the adult butterfly enthusiast such as myself. Amazing book selection where I got one for each boy and although I stuck to my $100 budget, if money were no object I know I would have loaded up on more goodies to commemorate our first trip. We live just thirty minutes away so we will not only be back but will be looking into annual passes which also look very reasonably priced. We also look forward to spring and summer when we can enjoy the awesome playground. As I mentioned my husband was away for work so we will be back and soon so be can delight in the fun and also see our boys have a blast. I'm also seriously hoping a friend or family member will have a wedding there soon as i think it would be such a gorgeous perfect venue to host a love day! Thanks for a great experience. Wanted to take a minute and write it all out. Will be sharing with my neighborhood and school, bus momma's too! See you soon Butterfly...

Read moreThe conservatory itself is beautiful, but unfortunately, my experience getting married here was initially incredibly disappointing. I had clearly communicated when booking that we were eloping—it was just myself, my husband, our officiant, photographer, and witnesses. No extra services were requested. I was originally quoted $400 for a photography session, but just an hour before our ceremony, I received a call saying that unless I paid $1900, we wouldn’t be allowed to get married inside. This sudden change was shocking and extremely upsetting.
We ended up getting married in the parking lot, which was not the vision we had for our day. Afterward, we went inside for photos, but even that felt rushed. I had called ahead to say we’d be slightly delayed due to the timing of this last-minute change, and was told, “Please don’t rush, I’ll be here,” which made me feel like we had some grace. But once we arrived (only 15 minutes late), we were pushed out after just 45 minutes.
I was 25 weeks pregnant, and my husband was on crutches with a broken leg—this entire experience was not only stressful but also emotionally draining. Thankfully, our officiant and photographer were amazing and helped salvage the day the best they could.
That said, after we shared our concerns, the conservatory reached out to us directly. They were very kind and understanding, and they offered us a 50% refund as a gesture of goodwill. While it was an unfortunate situation, their response and willingness to make things right really meant a lot. Their customer service and support toward our experience was genuinely appreciated.
I do acknowledge and appreciate the way the staff responded afterward, showing that they care about their guests and are willing to take responsibility when...
