Grandma’s Philly: The Thai Restaurant with a Twist
Is everyone in Philadelphia just too cool to talk about this place, or do they all have impossibly high standards? 😂 If nobody else is going to say it, I will! At Grandma’s Philly, all the male waitstaff are dressed in black shirts, with model-like physiques and good looks. Most of them have a cool, aloof vibe, but they speak so softly and have deep, magnetic voices. I’m not sure if it’s because the noise level is high and they have to speak softly, or if it’s intentional, but when they lean in to talk, it’s enough to make your heart race and your face turn red. 🔥What I expected: A typical, cozy little restaurant with a kind, grandmotherly owner. 🔥What I got: A dimly lit, nightclub-like atmosphere with male hosts who are over six feet tall! 🥐Now, let’s talk about the food—because that’s the real star here. I think this place easily makes the top 5 for Thai food in Philadelphia. I ordered two recommended dishes: Khao Soi (Northern Thai Curry Noodles): This version is incredibly creamy, with generous portions of chicken. The overall serving size is huge; my friend and I couldn’t finish it even when sharing. Yum Wensen (Spicy Glass Noodle Salad): This was a delightful surprise! The dressing is very authentic and Thai, using genuine Thai glass noodles that have more chew than the typical Chinese variety. The balance of garlic, spiciness, and tanginess is perfect, making it an excellent appetizer. 🥐I can’t wait to go back and try more dishes. And of course, I’ll get another chance to observe Grandma’s carefully selected staff. I highly recommend this place to anyone in Philadelphia who loves Thai food. Just be prepared to wait in line! #Philadelphia #PhillyFood #PhillyThai
