Habitat 67: Montreal’s LEGO-Inspired Brutalist Icon 🏙️🧩
💸😔Perched by the St. Lawrence River in Montréal, Habitat 67 is a residential marvel designed by Moshe Safdie for Expo 67. A Brutalist masterpiece, it’s so iconic that Canada Post featured it on a 2017 Expo anniversary stamp!🏣 🎓 From Graduation Project to Global Fame The concept began as Safdie’s university thesis—his professor loved it instantly! 🎓✨ Now, it’s a Montréal landmark. 🧱 354 Pieces of Concrete Poetry Built from 354 identical prefab concrete cubes, it’s 12 stories tall with 146 units (originally 158, but some were merged). 🏣🏣 Each home gets ample light and a private balcony. ☀️🌿 🏡 Suburban-Urban Fusion… Almost Safdie aimed to blend suburban charm (gardens!) with urban affordability and density. Sadly, costs were too high—the “people’s housing” dream didn’t pan out. 💸😔 🧩 LEGO Legacy In 2012, Habitat 67 became a LEGO Architecture set. Fun fact: Safdie used LEGO bricks to model it during design! 🧱👨🎨 Architect: Moshe Safdie Built: 1967 Location: Montréal, Canada 🇨🇦🏙️🧩 💸😔Photographer: Gili Merin #Brutalism #ConcreteJungle #ArchitecturalMarvel #LEGOVibes #MontrealLove
