Half-Day in Newport: Popular Restaurant & Cliff Walk
A quick but lovely half-day in Newport—here’s how I spent it, with great views and seafood (sort of)! 🗺️ 🦞 The Mooring Seafood Kitchen & Bar Address: 1 Sayers Wharf, Newport, RI 02840 This is a total "internet-famous" spot, and let’s be real—its waterfront view is 10/10 🌊! The lobster here still comes from Maine, which is a plus. We weren’t super hungry when we arrived, so we split a 1 ¼-pound stuffed lobster, a cheese board, and a bowl of New England clam chowder. Honestly? The lobster and chowder were fine—tasted exactly like you’d expect, good but nothing mind-blowing 😐. The cheese board was a bit of a letdown, though—pretty skimpy for what we paid 🧀. There was a raw seafood platter on the menu that looked amazing, but I had a bad experience with food poisoning from oysters before, so I chickened out (no regrets there! 🦪❌). Also, it’s pretty pricey. A lobster this small would cost less than $30 in Maine this season, but here it was over $40… ouch 💸. 🌊 Cliff Walk Address: 119 Memorial Blvd, Newport, RI 02840 This has to be one of Rhode Island’s most famous attractions—and for good reason! The day we went, the weather was perfect ☀️—the ocean breeze was so refreshing, and the views of the water and mansions were stunning. We got there a bit late, though. We wanted to visit The Breakers mansion (The Breakers) too, so we didn’t have time to walk the entire trail—only a short section near the mansions 🚶♀️. From what I heard, the whole trail is about 3.5 miles long. If there are some ups and downs, it probably takes a little over an hour to finish? The path is paved really smoothly, so it’s an easy walk—you could wear pretty much any shoes 👟. Next time I’m in Newport, I’m definitely coming back to walk the whole thing! 🤞 #NewportRI #RhodeIslandTravel #CliffWalkNewport #SeafoodLovers #TravelDiary
