Halle (Saale) DIY Travel Guide – No Help Needed! 😊
Located in southeastern Saxony-Anhalt, Halle (Saile) is the only major German city with over 200,000 residents that remained largely undamaged during WWII. Its diverse and elegant architecture makes it truly unique among eastern and western German cities. The city boasts a rare inner-city viaduct, blending oddly but beautifully with its charming old-town scenery. Modern and lively, you’ll find cartoon-style murals near the station and plenty of young people and children around. Without further ado, here are the must-see spots: 1. Marktkirche Tower (Hausmannstürme) 🏰 A 16th-century tower still used as a wedding venue! A 10-minute walk northwest from the station. Open daily 11:00–17:00 for tower climbs, but you must wait for the previous group to finish (~30 min). Warning: The stairs are very steep—not suitable for the elderly, kids, or those afraid of heights! But the panoramic views are worth it. Tickets: ~€7/5 (adult/student). 2. Moritzburg Art Museum (Kunstmuseum Moritzburg Halle (Saale)) 🎨 Housed in a 15th-century castle, this museum (founded in 1885) has survived 150+ years! Its vast collection includes Babylonian statues, ancient Egyptian artifacts, and modern masterpieces—arguably Germany’s second-best after Berlin’s Museum Island. Free entry, but pricey (yet gorgeous) souvenirs. (Downside: Staff patrol frequently, which can disrupt the experience.) 3. State Museum of Prehistory (Landesmuseum für Vorgeschichte) ⚱️ One of Germany’s oldest and most significant archaeological museums, with 15+ million artifacts, including the famous Nebra Sky Disc. A must for history buffs! Tickets: €7/5. 4. Bach-Handel House Museum (Wilhelm-Friedemann-Bach-Haus) 🎶 Showcases rare classical instruments, original musical manuscripts, and archives. Allow 2–3 hours. Tickets: €4 (includes a free postcard!). (Fair warning: The staff on the 1st floor can be… overly enthusiastic in that very German way.) ⚠️ Skip This (Unless You Have a Car): Giebichenstein Castle 🏰❌ Currently closed to the public (converted into offices/residences). The surrounding forest is dense, and the best photo spot requires crossing to the north side of the bridge. Not worth the hassle! Bonus Spots 🎭🎓🌿 Beatles Museum (in the old town) Germany’s oldest university & conservatory (take the tram from the station or Marktplatz) Hiking trails outside the city—great for nature lovers! #Germany #TravelGermany #LifeInGermany #StudyInGermany #HalleSaale ✈️🇩🇪
