🏰 Helsinki Chapter: Kamppi Chapel K2S ❄️
Visited Helsinki at the end of last year and encountered a heavy snowstorm. When we got out of the airport in the early morning, the temperature was below zero, and our group huddled on the street waiting for the bus to take us to the city center. Helsinki left me with an impression of being very classical and serene, just like the Nordic vibe I had imagined. 🏛️The Kamppi Chapel, also known as the Chapel of Silence, was completed and opened in 2012. In the city center surrounded by classical architecture, seeing a warm wooden church covered in snow on the ground instantly feels healing. 🌟The interior of the church is also made of wood, with wooden boards cut into curved shapes, stacked layer by layer upwards, but the overall form is soft and fitting, without the angular edges of the outdoor spruce logs. I guess the designer wanted us to focus on the space itself and the light that spills in, feeling the atmosphere, thus making the interior very minimalist. However, the construction technique of the wooden interior itself must be more complex. It's very quiet, with light scattering from the egg-shaped roof gaps, slowly changing the interplay of light and shadow. A wall away, the hustle and bustle of the outside world are gone, and you just want to stay quietly for a while, enjoying your own time. #Helsinki #Chapel #Travel #ChapelOfSilence #ArchitecturalDesign #Finland #Architects
