Hiking in Vancouver 📍 Buntzen Lake

🌟After exams, I needed to relax. The weather was decent on Friday, so I opened All Trails to find a nearby hiking trail and found Buntzen to be quite nice - moderate difficulty and not too far away. 🌟I searched online and was surprised to find it’s part of BC Hydro. Starting from May 16th, you need to book a free parking pass on their official website. Luckily, I woke up early on Friday and was able to get a full-day pass. (The signal at the entrance isn’t great, so it’s recommended to take a screenshot of the QR code in advance.) 🌟From Richmond, it’s about a 1 hour and 10-minute drive. 🌟We completed the full Buntzen Lake Trail but added some difficulty (included a climbing section), which extended it from 10km to 13.7km. It took us 3 hours and 55 minutes, with the highest point at an altitude of 270m 🌳 🌟The trail is of medium difficulty, fairly flat and easy to walk, but there are sections with a lot of gravel, so hiking shoes are recommended 🥾 🌟There’s a dog park by the entrance lake where several dogs were happily playing in the water. 🌟People were picnicking by the lake, reading, daydreaming; it had a very comfortable atmosphere. It’s a bit like a smaller version of the lake near Golden Ears Park. 🌟The weather was quite suitable for hiking yesterday, a bit of sun but not too strong, and many paths are shaded by the forest. 🌟The forest in spring is a light green, giving a sense of serene beauty. 🌟We rested at a midpoint viewpoint, eating beef jerky, and unexpectedly attracted a huge crow! It was massive, with a beak a bit like an eagle’s. Later research revealed it was a raven, the largest bird in the Passeriformes order. No wonder it was so big; it was a bit scary when it flew towards me, so I quickly put the beef jerky away. But it was persistent, lingering around us for a while before flying off. It looked quite impressive in flight, gliding like a bald eagle. 🌟The deepest impression of ravens for me was from “Game of Thrones,” Bran’s raven. I didn’t expect to see the real bird version, haha 🐦‍⬛ #Vancouver #VancouverLife #HikingTrailRecommendations #HikingToWorldMeasurement #OutdoorHiking #MyHikingDiary #Canada #CanadianLife #GetCloserToNature #Coquitlam #Hiking #HikingPhotos #SpringScenery #Spring #BeautifulHikingViews #OfCourseToRecord
