Hiking the White Cliffs of Dover
🇬🇧 The Closest Point to France in the UK The White Cliffs of Dover are the closest point in the UK to France. 🇬🇧🇫🇷 On a clear day, you can see the French coastline—wow! Just across is Calais, France. Walking from Dover town center towards the cliffs, my phone suddenly lost signal. When I reached the summit, I received a text saying, “Welcome to France.” 💌 My phone had connected to the French network! Hiking Guide to the White Cliffs of Dover: 🚂 From any London station to Dover Priory—about a 1-hour train ride. Upon arriving at Dover Priory station, search for “National Trust - The White Cliffs of Dover” on Google Maps. The map will guide you to the hiking trail. Option 1: If you’re short on time or prefer a shorter hike, you can stop at National Trust - The White Cliffs of Dover. 🕐 It’s about a 50-minute walk from the station. Option 2: If you love hiking and want to explore more, continue to the National Trust Lighthouse Down. You’ll see the lighthouse (the first to use electric lights). 🕐 It’s about a 1.5-hour hike from Dover Priory station. ⚠️ The hiking times above are without any breaks or photo stops. Highly Recommended 🍽️ Restaurant/Brunch/Café: Chaplins Super recommended! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 🍽️ A local gem with delicious and affordable food, offering classic British dishes. I had the classic English breakfast and beef and mashed potato pie. 🍓 For dessert: fruit with hot custard (a sauce made from milk, cheese, and eggs). 💰 Average cost: £10 per person. ⚠️ Reservations are a must on weekends! The place has limited seating, and it’s often booked by local seniors on weekends. We got lucky when a table became available just as we arrived. 😍 It was such a treat to enjoy this delicious brunch. #WhiteCliffsOfDover #Dover #WhiteCliffs #UK #BritishTowns #MyTravelDiary
