History about the Blue Mosque

📚Construction: Built between 1609 and 1617, the Blue Mosque is one of the largest mosques in the world. It took about 7 years to complete, showcasing the power of the Ottoman Empire at the time. Over 20,000 Iznik tiles were used to decorate the mosque, including handcrafted tiles, carpets, stained glass windows, and calligraphic decorations. 🏗️ Six Minarets Myth: The mosque is unique for having six minarets, which is a rare feature. According to a myth, Sultan Ahmed I ordered the construction of a golden mosque, but the architect misunderstood and built six minarets instead. In Turkish, "gold" (altın) and "six" (altı) sound similar. 🕌 What to See 🏛️ Interior: The mosque is famous for its more than 20,000 handcrafted Iznik tiles, featuring over 50 different tulip designs. The interior is also adorned with richly cushioned carpets, beautiful stained glass windows, and exquisite Islamic decorative elements and calligraphy. 🌸 Central Dome: The central dome is 73 meters wide and 43 meters high, with 28 stained glass windows. The dome was designed to surpass the dome of the Hagia Sophia, which was once the most important church in the world. 🌙 #Blue Mosque #Travel Guide #Attractions #Tourism #Turkey #Europe
