Tokyo Resurrection Cathedral, the Russian Orthodox Church, and the Primary Chronicle ππ ππΈ Today is December 24th in the Julian calendar, which is Christmas Eve. After work, I came to Japan's largest Orthodox Christian church and also its largest "Byzantine" - style buildingβthe Tokyo Resurrection Cathedral. I wanted to experience the Orthodox Christmas Mass. ποΈ ππΈ Japan's Orthodox Church originated from the Russian Orthodox Church. It was first established by the missionary "St. Nicholas" during the Russian Empire era. After several twists and turns, it eventually became an autonomous church. π ππΈOf course, compared to Japan's Orthodox Church, the Russian Orthodox Church has a much longer history. The Primary Chronicle, the earliest surviving chronicle in Rus' history, records a story about how Vladimir, the Grand Prince of Kievan Rus', chose a faith for his people. π Vladimir met with missionaries from various faiths. π #Tokyo π
