This is a reminder of History and Faith. Hope that has stands since before and after the russo-japanese war and during the second world war showing the dedication of faith in keeping not just the tradition of scripture, the Church, and the Japanese people. This shows that Faith does not have to rob people of their culture but merges with theirs. If more people in the western society can realize that they would be more open instead of scared. Read moreBeing a Russian Orthodox, I used to come here, and even was happy to pray at the holy relics of St.Nkokay of Japan, the Apostle-like founder of the Japanese Orthodox church. I still krep a breast cross from the cathedral (I got it yo replace the one which was "stolen" from me by the tricky "kami" at Izu shores :)
The majestic, impressive cathedral is also an important historical and cultural heritage, of course.

Read moreI gave one star to this so called Nikorai-do for one simple reason. At the entrance, I was asked whether I was an atheist or an Orthodox believer. I was baptized around 15 years ago but eventually stopped participating in church services and became a non-believer for personal reasons. So, I honestly stated that I am an atheist.
After that, I was forced (yes, that part was non-negotiable) to donate 300 yen. It was okay, no problem. However, it turned out that believers are not expected to donate anything. So, believers, who are supposed supporters of the Church, don't owe anything to the Church? It's beyond hilarious...
