How can you visit Heidelberg without trying the famous pork knuckle?
You definitely can’t come to Germany without indulging in its classic dishes—roasted pork knuckle and beer 🍖🍻 I looked up recommendations before coming, and many people suggested this place. After wandering around Heidelberg for a bit, we decided to go for it. We arrived around 1 PM, and the restaurant was already quite busy. Many tables were reserved, and most of the diners were foreigners—seems like it’s well-loved by locals too! Order: Since we had a late breakfast around 10 AM and weren’t too hungry, we just ordered the signature pork knuckle with a side of potatoes 🥔 and a dark beer 🍺. The restaurant also gave us a complimentary basket of bread and sauce (probably standard). Food review: (time to judge 👇) First, the portion—the pork knuckle was huge, about the size of two fists. It would be more than enough for two girls. In terms of texture, the skin was super crispy—crunchy with every bite. You’d need some effort to cut through it with a knife 🔪. The potatoes were soft and mashed, pretty standard. Taste-wise, the skin tasted like pork cracklings but was overly salty, probably to enhance the flavor. The meat inside was perfectly seasoned, especially with the sauce—pretty good! But compared to the pork knuckle, the dark beer 🍺 was what really impressed me. Slightly chilled, it tasted exceptionally fresh with a hint of malt aroma. Not bitter at all—even someone who doesn’t usually enjoy beer could easily drink it. It perfectly cut through the richness of the pork knuckle. Pork knuckle + beer = a perfect match 💯 📍 Located on Hauptstraße, close to the Holy Spirit Church 🏠 Restaurant name: Palmbräu Gasse 💰 Approx. €20 per person (for reference) #Heidelberg #HeidelbergFood #HeidelbergCastle #HeidelbergOldBridge
