How NYC Is Remembering 9/11 On Its 24th Anniversary & Honoring All Lives Lost

As we approach the 24th anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks, NYC plans to come together to show support for one another and those we lost on that tragic day in 2001. From [**Tribute in Light**](https://secretnyc.co/911-tribute-in-light-nyc/) to the annual ceremony at the [**9/11 Memorial Museum**](https://secretnyc.co/9-11-memorial-and-museum-nyc/), there are meaningful ways to honor our city, our neighbors, and show our strength and resilience. Here are a few ways you can participate. [Tribute in Light](https://secretnyc.co/911-tribute-in-light-nyc/) ------------------------------------------------------------------ From dusk on September 11th until dawn the next morning, 88 xenon lightbulbs are positioned into two 48-foot squares that extend four miles into the sky, a nod to the Twin Towers’ structure and location. Those up to 60 miles away are able to see the iconic memorial, but some of the best places to take in the emotional display include Brooklyn Bridge Park and Battery Park. 24th Anniversary Commemoration at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum ------------------------------------------------------------ Family members of those we lost in 2001 and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing are invited to the plaza of the **9/11 Memorial & Museum** for the annual ceremony, in which victims’ names are read aloud. The event will begin at 8:30am, followed by the first moment of silence 16 minutes later. It is expected to conclude around 1pm. According to the Museum, the invitation or letter you received in August, as well as P and T case numbers or Memorial Park identification cards, will give family members access to the grounds (which begins at 7:30am). The Museum itself will be open from 8am-5:30pm. Given the crowds expected downtown for the day, you’ll want to take a look at the [**traffic changes and street closures**](https://secretnyc.co/nyc-9-11-street-closures-2025/) downtown on the anniversary itself. For those who want to tune in from home, you can [**stream the commemoration online**](https://911memorial.org/watch) through the Museum’s website. Remember the Sky ---------------- Join New Yorkers, no matter where you are, with the 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s social media campaign, [**Remember the Sky**](https://www.911memorial.org/remember-sky). Everyone is able to show solidarity through Instagram, Facebook, and beyond. Here’s how it works: No matter the weather, post a photo of the sky in your location. Then, post it with a caption, tag the Museum, and include the hashtags #neverforget911 and #rememberthesky. The reason behind the movement is twofold: to commemorate the clear blue skies from 24 years ago, as well as to honor Spencer Finch’s monumental art installation, “Trying to Remember the Color of the Sky on That September Morning.” Table of Silence Project 9/11 ----------------------------- Lincoln Center calls for unity and peace through expression. This year, the “Table of Silence Project from created by Jacqulyn Buglisi and performed by the Buglisi Dance Theatre will begin at Josie Robertson Plaza at Lincoln Center will begin at 8:10am. Those interested in seeing the performance who aren’t able to make it to the Upper West Side can live-stream it on Facebook or YouTube.
