I’d gladly commute an hour to Kingston just for this Vietnamese
This place was my absolute go-to when I lived in Kingston—it’s right near the town center, and their pho is unreal (though I totally forgot to take a photo this time 😭). Papaya Salad: Tangy, sweet, and incredibly refreshing! It’s packed with big, plump shrimp 🦐, and the leftover dressing is so delicious I wanted to mix it with noodles. The green papaya is super crisp, and honestly, 越吃越开胃 (the more you eat, the more you crave it) 🍋. Summer Rolls: We ordered two types. One was Avocado & Mango & Seaweed—I didn’t have high expectations, and to be honest, I barely tasted the seaweed, but the mango and avocado combo was amazing 🥑🥭. It’s light and fresh, perfect for summer! The other was King Prawn, which was tasty too, but the mango one was such a nice surprise. Both come with peanut sauce that’s so fragrant it’s hard to resist 🥜! Cold Noodles (Bún Thit Nướng Nem): I opted for the Honey Grilled Pork version 🍖. The pork chop is incredible—no hint of gaminess, just a lovely sweet-savory flavor and juicy texture. It comes with a crispy spring roll and some fresh salad. The sauce for the cold noodles tastes like a zesty chili vinegar mix—so good. Pro tip: mix it really well, otherwise you might get a slight raw rice taste (which I’m not a fan of 😅). But once it’s properly mixed, it’s absolute perfection! Pho: We got the basic beef pho, and I’m kicking myself for forgetting to snap a pic—it’s a must-order every single time! Their broth is richer and more flavorful than most pho I’ve had, even in the UK. Squeeze in some lime, and it’s pure comfort in a bowl 🍜. It’s so tasty you’ll keep going back for more! The portions here are huge, and pretty much everything on the menu is a hit. The only downside? I haven’t found a drink here that wows me—they’re just okay, nothing special. Average cost: £15-20 per person, depending on what you order 💰. 🍴 36 Streets Food - Vietnamese Restaurant KT1 1JT (it’s tucked away in an alley!)
