Blind Spots & Steep Roads: Most highways are two lanes with no shoulders. Slow down on uphill slopes and stay right. Watch for "Blindheiði" signs! F-Roads: Only for 4WD vehicles - regular cars prohibited. 🛣️ Road Types • Ring Road (Route 1): Circles the island. Mostly paved except for some eastern sections. Check www.road.is for real-time updates. • Summer Driving: A 2WD car can access most areas (except highlands & F-roads). 🚘 Rental & Driving Rules • Requirements: Driver’s license + International Driving Permit (or notarized English translation). • Speed Limits: Urban areas: 50 km/h🚶🏻‍♂️Gravel roads: 80 km/h Paved roads: 90 km/h Always follow posted signs! • Parking: Pay via EasyPark or Parka apps (small fee applies).
