Italy | Merano - A Mix of Austrian and Italian Charm 🏞️
🍷Merano is a city located on the southern side of the Alps, and although it belongs to Italy, it's very close to the border. This region was ceded from Austria to Italy after World War I, resulting in a population that's half Italian and half Austrian, with both Italian and German languages spoken. 🍷Merano is famous for its thermal baths and has a much warmer climate than the northern side of the mountains, making it a popular spa destination. Empress Sisi of Austria visited frequently for her health, which made this small city well-known. Nestled in a valley, Merano boasts beautiful scenery and a pleasant climate, and it's known for its abundant fruit production. My impression is that it feels more Germanic with a touch of Italian elements (cuisine, language, shops...). Attractions + Activities Thermal Pools: Right in the city center, they cover a large area with both indoor and outdoor pools, as well as various saunas. Trautmansdorff Palace and Gardens: The palace is okay, but the gardens are the highlight and worth a visit. Shopping Street: Narrow alleys lined with ancient buildings where you can experience the 🇮🇹 charm. 🍷Dorf Tirol A small village situated on the hills behind Merano, amidst various orchards. It has now been developed into a tourist resort but still retains the appearance of a small village, offering a more peaceful and leisurely atmosphere compared to the bustling Merano below. If you're visiting Merano for a few days, it's recommended to stay here, as hotels and B&Bs are generally more affordable. Dorf Tirol is surrounded by various orchards, and I recommend two themed hiking trails: the Apple Orchard Path and the 🍇 Vineyard Path. There are also two castles on the mountains outside the village: Schloss Tirol. On the way to the castle, you'll pass through beautiful 🍇 vineyards. Highly recommend the Sandgruberhof restaurant on the way for its breathtaking views. #Merano #Italy #MyLife #Tirol
