Ithaca Activity Highlight — Finger Lakes Wineries 🍇
One of the perks of being in Ithaca: the Finger Lakes region is packed with wineries! 🍷 Within just an hour's drive from downtown, there are hundreds of wineries—from fairy-tale castles to cozy family-run cellars. The most famous wines and a map of recommended wineries are included in the last photo. 🗺️✨ Winery hopping in rural upstate New York is surprisingly accessible and wholesome. The food is light and fresh (classic "white people meals" 🥗), and most wineries close by 5 PM—so nightlife is basically non-existent. After a day of tasting, I was practically forced to go to bed early. 😴 📍Recommended wineries (tried & trusted tasting experiences + prices): Hillick & Hobbs Estate - $13/18 per flight On the east shore of Seneca Lake with stunning views. Probably the most beautiful setting and interior design so far—only 30 minutes from Cornell. Specializes in various Rieslings. 🏞️ Once Finger Lake - $4-5 per tasting Self-guided tasting card system. Highly recommended if you only have time for one stop—it features signature wines from famous local wineries (including Dr. Frank, Hermann J., Hobbs, and more). Their food menu also offers ice cream and cheese curds from nearby Shtayburne Farm Creamery 🧀🍦 (check out my separate post on that farm!). Fox Run Vineyards - $5 per flight Fox-themed winery with sweet and fruit wines. Loved their semi-dry Riesling with guava-lemon notes! 🦊🍋 Finger Lakes Cider House - ~$10 per flight Sweet, bubbly apple ciders—even non-drinkers will enjoy. Friday nights feature live music, BBQ, and Jamaican jerk chicken. 🍎🎶🍗 Upcoming wineries on my list: Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard Dr. Frank Vineyard (academic vibes 🧪) Trestle 31 Ryan William Vineyard Terra di Lavoro Vineyards (heard the food is great!) The Lounge at Colloca Estate Winery (looks delicious too 😋) Point of the Bluff Vineyards Silver Thread Winegarden Haven’t found any winery with truly amazing food yet—but the exploration continues! If I discover any hidden gems with fantastic food, I might write a dedicated food & winery guide later. 🧭🍴 #FingerLakes #UpstateNYWeekend #NYWineries
