Jackson Hole: Allegedly the Premier US Ski Resort
1. In the United States, particularly within Wyoming, there's the fabled "Wild West" where cowboys were once banished back in the early 19th century. During the summer months, folks settle in the trendy town of Jackson and make their way to the adjacent Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. Come winter, though, it's the neighboring Teton Village - Jackson Hole that steals the spotlight, touted as the top ski destination in countless ski rankings across the US. ๐๐๏ธโท๏ธ It has managed to draw in hordes of skiing aficionados, captivating them with its renowned reputation for remarkable skiing escapades. ๐๐ฏ๐ถ 2. Well, what exactly is Jackson Hole like? Many of my companions consider it their dreamy getaway for skiing, and the locals are effusive in their praise, claiming that its designers have "an extraordinary sense of humor". Thanks to the plentiful and recurrent dry powder snow along with the inherently rugged and steep slopes of the mountains, it conceals a multitude of fascinating and challenging terrains, beckoning the bravest and most dedicated freeride enthusiasts. ๐โ๏ธ๐ The diverse terrains present a world of excitement for those seeking adventure on the slopes and yearning to explore distinctive skiing landscapes that are truly one-of-a-kind. ๐๐ป๐ 3. Picture slopes steeper than 35 degrees, blanketed with knee-high moguls; narrow ledges that are two meters wide, with one side hovering in mid-air and the other lined with sharp stones capable of ruining ski edges in an instant; thick coniferous forests and bumpy snow-filled gullies at the base; winding and constricted mountain paths with undulating surfaces; and massive sections that require a great deal of mental preparation before one dares to inch down slowly. I encountered terrains I'd never skied on before and witnessed scenes that seemed straight out of extreme sports movies. Every now and then, while riding the cable car, I'd find myself pondering: "Where on earth did that skier come from?!" ๐๐ก๐ฎ These unique and challenging terrains are what make Jackson Hole so alluring and what continuously test the skills and courage of skiers. ๐๐๐ช 4. The fabled double black diamond Corbetโs Couloir is reputed to be the toughest ski run throughout North America. Mere glimpses of it are enough to make average skiers' knees turn to jelly. I had the good fortune to witness the "cliff jumping competition" in person during that year, joining the Red Bull photographers to see how the cover stars of various skiing magazines launched themselves off the six-meter-high cliff and soared through the air. ๐๐ท๐ It was an awe-inspiring sight that etched itself deeply into my memory and truly showcased the extreme nature of skiing at Jackson Hole. ๐๐๐ 5. The difficulty grading of the ski runs here is truly distinctive. There are double blue runs that are scarcely found in North America, with slopes that match the steepness of black diamond runs in other resorts. And the black diamond runs here build on those, adding in elements like cliffs, moguls or thickets of trees. Given my rather laid-back and unstructured 60-odd days of skiing experience at that time, I felt rather disheartened. There's still a long journey ahead if I aim to fully relish this legendary place. ๐โท๏ธ๐ Nonetheless, it's precisely this level of challenge that renders Jackson Hole so captivating and has skiers itching to enhance their skills and return for more thrills. #JacksonHoleSkiAdventure #TopUSSnowResort #SkiingChallenges
