Jackson Town: A Gem in the US West
1. Having wrapped up the grand loop journey across the American West, I took a brief respite and then resumed my travels on June 28th, setting off for Grand Teton, Yellowstone National Park and Salt Lake City. And Jackson Town was my initial destination. ππΊοΈπΆ Situated in Wyoming within the US, Jackson Town (Jackson Hole) is a celebrated holiday spot in the nation. It serves as a mandatory waypoint for those aiming to access Grand Teton and Yellowstone Parks. In earlier times, it was where cowboys conducted transactions regarding livestock and furs. To this day, it continues to hold a potent Western charm. As you wander along its streets, it's frequently possible to spot cowboys donning cowboy hats, denim jeans and leather boots, guiding horse-drawn carriages hither and thither. Encircled by mountains all around and with the Snake River close by, the town offers a picturesque landscape. People flock here to camp during summer, to raft and climb, and in winter, they come for skiing. Truly, it's an idyllic haven for outdoor pursuits. πποΈβΊοΈ The blend of its natural beauty and Western heritage makes it a magnet for travelers worldwide. πππ 2. The town is of a relatively small size, possessing just one principal commercial street. Along this street, numerous stores and art galleries line up, presenting a diverse array of handicrafts, albeit at rather costly prices. The highlight of the town surely lies in the Antler Park at its street center. Four massive arches crafted from around 7,500 elk antlers, each with a distinct design, are truly a sight to behold. Apparently, every winter, a multitude of elk make their way to the "National Elk Refuge" in Jackson to overwinter. When spring arrives and the elk commence their migration, they leave behind their naturally shed antlers. The local Boy Scouts gather and auction these antlers, and over time, the antler arches were constructed after 1960. Given that antlers naturally erode and disintegrate, the antler arches are rebuilt roughly every 50 years. Additionally, there's a memorial stone dedicated to veterans within the park. ππ¦π» These antler arches have come to symbolize the town, luring countless visitors who are keen to snap photos and marvel at this unique feature. ππΈποΈ 3. Jackson Town has also gained a degree of international acclaim. Since 1978, the annual Global Central Bank Annual Meeting has been held here during the months of August and September each year. It's a venue where discussions on the global economy and monetary policies take place, attracting hundreds of leading economists, Nobel laureates and central bank officials from different countries. It's even referred to as the "Davos Forum for Central Bank Governors". ππΉπ This event has further boosted the town's international profile and turned it into a place that garners attention from various sectors. ππποΈ #JacksonTownWonders #USAdventure #WesternAllure
