Jolene: A Must-Eat in London
šI took a good look, and the last time I seriously shared a restaurant that I thought was delicious was almost five years ago when I was studying in New York. Itās been almost a month since I returned from my trip to the UK, and before I went, I heard many peopleās impression of British restaurants: donāt expect too much, just edible. So, I really didnāt have high hopes, and the restaurant research I did was just a casual look, not even checking out a single Michelin-starred place, as I was afraid of wasting money. š¤ šEnough chatter, let me cut to the chase: I believe the average standard of Western and Southern European cuisine in London is higher than in New York. So, the saying āthereās no good food in Londonā does not hold true for me at all. Those who have a stereotype of bad food in London probably havenāt tried French, Italian, or Spanish cuisine there, or they might have only eaten Chinese food. Jolene probably isnāt that niche; those living in the area might have heard of it. Itās a small establishment with a lot of personality. The menu is written on a blackboard, only telling you the ingredients, and how itās made is up to chance ā itās like opening a mystery box. šBut thereās no need to worry about their dishes. I was amazed that chicken liver could be made into such a tangy and savory dish. The Italian coarse pasta was also very al dente; I suspect itās handmade. Topped with cheese and classic tomato sauce, it was really good. Considering the time difference, I should have been having breakfast⦠but my husband and I ended up ordering a roasted chicken dish as well. The servers were all very relaxed, and the atmosphere was super nice. šš„ Jolene is absolutely the best restaurant Iāve eaten at this year; I even think it could compete with my favorite in New York, casa mono. By the way, it seems that allergies are quite serious in Europe. Itās also possible that special dietary preferences are more popular?? Almost every restaurant will ask if you have any food allergies and offer a specific menu. In the US, most restaurants will label allergens as a warning, but itās not to the point where Iām asked about allergies when Iām eating ramen. #LondonFoodExploration #MustEatInLondon #Arsenal #FoodNearEmiratesStadium #London
