Kīlauea Volcano Eruption: A Night We’ll Never Forget!

Episode 34 of Kīlauea’s fiery performance was nothing short of spectacular — and impossibly brief. This dual-vent eruption shot lava up to 400+ meters, the highest in months, yet lasted only six dazzling hours. 🕒 The Waiting Game We’d been tracking USGS predictions for January 29–31. On the evening of the 29th, we parked and waited, watching frequent lava overflows — every few minutes! — feeling certain an eruption was imminent. We waited in the car until 6 AM… only for the activity to fade into quiet plumes of smoke. No fire, just anticipation. 😮💨 🌌 The Surprise Eruption Exhausted after a full day of volcano hiking on the 30th, we decided to skip the vigil and head to our hotel for real sleep. We subscribed to Volcano Call and kept one eye on the YouTube livestream. Just five minutes after lying down — it erupted. Of course. 🌋 We knew most recent eruptions lasted 10–12 hours, and we didn’t want to miss the peak intensity. So, tired but determined, we drove back into the volcanic glow. 🚗 A Journey Like No Other The road to Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park felt otherworldly. The sky glowed deep red above the summit. Cars streamed steadily toward the fire — a quiet, shared pilgrimage. At the Devastation Trail lookout, people of all ages and backgrounds had gathered: A 70+ year old man who’s followed volcanoes for decades Local Hawaiians who feel the pulse of Pele in their blood A young couple with a stroller, sharing the moment over video call with family far away In that cool, dark night, strangers felt like family — united by awe. ❤️‍🔥 A Moment of Fire & Fortune Standing there, listening to the low rumble of the Earth, watching lava networks spread like glowing veins — I was moved to tears. Then, a Chinese uncle nearby shouted excitedly into his phone: “May the Chinese stock market rise like this volcano — always red and fiery! 📈🔥” And just like that… the moment became even more real. 📸 No Photo Could Capture This Some experiences just can’t be framed — only felt. Kīlauea gave us a night of fire, community, and a memory that will burn bright for a lifetime. #US #Hawaii #Honolulu
