Kamakura Daibutsu | One of Japan's Three Great Buddhas (2)๐
Transportation: ๐๐ธ From Hase Station on the Enoshima Electric Railway, it's just a 7-minute walk. ๐๐ถโโ๏ธ From the east exit of JR Kamakura Station, take an Enoshima Electric Railway bus or a Keikyu bus and get off at Daibutsu-mae Stationโalmost no walking required! ๐ Admission: 200 yen (to enter the grounds; an additional 20 yen ticket is required to visit inside the Buddha statue). ๐๏ธ ๐๐ธ Japanese people love to talk about the "Three Great Somethings," like "Three Great Ramen," "Three Great Waterfalls," and "Three Great Night Views." However, there's no consensus on the "Three Great Buddha Statues." It's said that before World War II, the Hyogo Great Buddha, built in 1891, was once considered one of the "Three Great Buddhas" along with the Nara Great Buddha and the Kamakura Great Buddha. ๐๐ธ However, during World War II, the Japanese government issued a "Metal Collection Order" under the National Mobilization Law, requiring citizens to provide metal for weapon production. ๐๐ธAs a result, the Hyogo Great Buddha was dismantled in 1944. ๐๏ธ #Kamakura ๐
