Kamakura Daibutsu | One of Japan's Three Great Buddhas (2)π
Transportation: ππΈ From Hase Station on the Enoshima Electric Railway, it's just a 7-minute walk. ππΆββοΈ From the east exit of JR Kamakura Station, take an Enoshima Electric Railway bus or a Keikyu bus and get off at Daibutsu-mae Stationβalmost no walking required! π Admission: 200 yen (to enter the grounds; an additional 20 yen ticket is required to visit inside the Buddha statue). ποΈ ππΈ Japanese people love to talk about the "Three Great Somethings," like "Three Great Ramen," "Three Great Waterfalls," and "Three Great Night Views." However, there's no consensus on the "Three Great Buddha Statues." It's said that before World War II, the Hyogo Great Buddha, built in 1891, was once considered one of the "Three Great Buddhas" along with the Nara Great Buddha and the Kamakura Great Buddha. ππΈ However, during World War II, the Japanese government issued a "Metal Collection Order" under the National Mobilization Law, requiring citizens to provide metal for weapon production. ππΈAs a result, the Hyogo Great Buddha was dismantled in 1944. ποΈ #Kamakura π
