Key West Road Trip
If you're heading to Miami, you absolutely must make the pilgrimage to Key West. And the journey itself is half the destination! ππ¨ Pick a beautiful, sunny day and start your adventure early. As you drive along the legendary Overseas Highway (U.S. Route 1), you'll be mesmerized by the sight of the ocean on both sides. The water is a breathtaking, translucent Tiffany blueβso clear and vibrant it looks like liquid jelly. π This drive is a soul-soothing experience that will instantly lift your spirits. π΄π₯° On your way to Key West, there are two essential stops where you can immerse yourself in this natural beauty. Here are the details and photos from my tripβdon't miss them! πΈ π΄ 1. Calusa Beach & Loggerhead Beach (Bahia Honda State Park) ποΈ π Navigation:β Drive to Bahia Honda State Park. This is a must-visit state park that requires an entrance fee. π° Cost:β $9 per vehicleβ (up to 8 people). It's a small price to pay for paradise. π Getting There:β Once inside the park, follow the signs all the way to the end to reach Calusa Beach and Loggerhead Beach. This is where you'll find the bluest, most crystal-clear waterβ of the entire journey. The color is simply unreal. The View:β The beach offers a stunning, unobstructed view of the old Bahia Honda Rail Bridgeβ (the "broken bridge"). It's an iconic and incredibly photogenic landmark that stands as a testament to Florida's engineering history. π Recommendation:β I strongly advise taking a break here. Find a spot on the sand, sit down, and just feel the sea breeze. Listen to the waves and soak in the view. It's a moment of pure tranquility you won't forget. π΄ 2. Sombrero Beach ποΈ π Location:β A bit further down the road in Marathon, Florida. π The Vibe:β This is a beautiful, wide white-sand beach. The water here is a slightly lighter, more brilliant turquoise compared to Bahia Honda. It's a favorite among locals, and you'll see many people sunbathing, playing volleyball, and enjoying the laid-back atmosphere. Amenities:β Along the beach, there are shaded picnic pavilions and even grills, making it a perfect spot for a family barbecue or a beachside lunch. β οΈ Pro-Tips: πΆοΈ Sunglasses are a MUST!β The reflection of the sun off the brilliant white sand is incredibly intense and can be blinding. Protect your eyes! Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen!β The Florida sun is no joke. Reapply often to avoid turning into a lobster. π¦ This drive to Key West is one of the most scenic road trips in the world. By stopping at these two beaches, you'll experience the very best of the Florida Keys' natural beauty. Happy travels! π β¨ #US #Florida #Miami
