Kiruna: The Aurora Town – A Fairytale Snowy Wonderland ❄️🌌

While researching routes to Tromsø, I found out whales leave by February—so aside from sea activities, Kiruna, Sweden’s northernmost aurora town, actually offers all winter snow activities! It’s less crowded, great value for money, and the experience was truly top-tier 👍. Where We Stayed: Aurora River Camp Glass Igloos & Cabins 🏕️ We stayed here for 3 days—it’s just a river away from the Ice Hotel. In winter, you can walk across the frozen river to visit the Ice Hotel! Transport Tip: A rental car is highly recommended for this accommodation. Cabin Perks: The wooden cabins have all daily necessities, but it was my first time making the bed in the attic (a fun little quirk! 😊). Aurora Sneak Peek: On our first night, we spotted faint auroras just by the river. We left a camping light in the snow about a meter from the tripod, set a 10-second exposure, and got the shot in Photo 5! Day 2: Dog Sledding & Viking-Themed Aurora Chase 🐶 Dog Sledding: Our guide was a lady from London—she drove the sled while telling us about each dog’s personality! The scenery was stunning, but my face was freezing 🥶. Lights of Vikings Tour: The aurora hunter shared a key tip: “We’re not just chasing auroras—we’re chasing cloudless skies. The auroras are always there; you just need clear weather to see them.” Day 3: City Walk & Panoramic Views 👣 Kiruna’s “Disappearing” Secret: We did a city walk and learned the whole town is built over empty mine shafts—earning it the nickname “the vanishing city.” Top of Luossabacken: In the evening, we headed here for panoramic views of the town. We even saw dogs in the Arctic Circle playing with snowballs—total joy! 🐕 And the best part? On our third night, the hotel owner knocked on our door suddenly: “The auroras are going to erupt tonight!” We watched an incredible aurora show right outside our cabin—even phone photos turned out amazing! #ArcticCircle #KirunaSweden #DogSledding #NorthernLights #WinterTravel #NorthernEurope #IceHotel #AuroraChase #FairytaleSnowWonderland
