Konpira Shrine 🌸🌿

Located in Kotohira, Kagawa, Konpira Shrine is the main shrine of the Konpira cult, sitting atop Mount Kotohira at an elevation of 521 meters. To reach the main shrine, you must first climb 785 steps, and if you wish to reach the highest point, the Okusha “Gongen Shrine,” 🍃 you’ll need to tackle 1,368 steps—a true test of strength and perseverance for worshippers. 🏔️⛩️ Konpira Shrine also offers many protective amulets and charms, 🍃 with adorable dog-shaped designs being a major highlight. 🐶 💖 In the past, when people traveled from Edo to Kagawa to worship, the journey was long and costly. As a result, they would send their family dogs to represent them, 🌺 preparing small bags containing offerings for travel expenses and asking travelers heading to Shikoku to carry them along.
