Kumamoto Castle | One of Japan's Three Great Castles π―
π Located in Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, also known as the Ginkgo Castle. The "Kumamoto Castle Historic Site" is designated as a Special National Historic Site, and 13 structures, including turrets, gates, and walls, are designated as Important Cultural Properties. ππ Together with Osaka Castle and Nagoya Castle, it is known as one of Japan's Three Great Castles. π― When Kato Kiyomasa built this castle, he considered the need for food supplies within the castle during a siege. Therefore, he planted many ginkgo trees as a wartime food reserve, which is why it is also called Ginkgo Castle. π― The overall structure of Kumamoto Castle is magnificent and grand. From a distance, the design of its upturned eaves looks like a beautiful and dynamic white crane about to take flight. The castle is surrounded by the famous tall stone walls known as "Samurai Return," meaning that no one can infiltrate the castle. ππ Even those with high martial arts skills find it difficult to climb the steep walls and have to turn back. #KumamotoCastle πΏ
