LA | Los Angeles ✨ UCLA's Hidden Gem for Delicious
For years, this has been UCLA students’ go-to Japanese spot in Westwood. Formerly known as Ami Sushi (all-you-can-eat), it’s now called Kopan — and the fish is super fresh with great value! Having tried the K-town Kopan before, I feel this one is even more affordable, maybe because they considered student budgets 😉 🐟 Sashimi & Sushi Platter A whole plate of happiness! Featuring bluefin tuna, salmon belly, scallop, black snapper — all thick-cut and super fresh. Thoughtful touches like caviar, spicy sauce, pickled onions... I especially love the bluefin tuna belly; the fat melts just right in your mouth with a slight tangy note. 🦀 King Crab Tart The crust is like a buttery puff pastry — crumbles at the touch of a fork. Inside is packed with sweet crab meat. A hint of butter and chili powder adds a creamy, slightly spicy finish. 🥑 Salmon King Crab Avocado Black truffle aroma hits you first! The salmon is tender, crab is sweet, and the sauce underneath has a light acidity that balances the richness. 🍲 Sukiyaki Bowl So comforting in winter… The broth is simmered with onions and fatty beef, steaming hot. Filled with cabbage, mushrooms, and bean sprouts — one bowl warms you right up. 🍔 Hamburger Steak Served sizzling on a hot plate, with a runny egg on top. Break the yolk and mix it with the juicy patty, mushroom-onion sauce, and rice — just like Hawaii’s loco moco. This hidden gem is even better after the revamp! Friends near UCLA / West LA, give it a try 🥢 😺 By day, I'm a data scientist in tech ✨ a 10-year LA local who loves sharing under-the-radar food spots in LA and the Bay.
