LA28 Confirms Olympic Soccer Is Coming To San Jose’s PayPal Stadium In 2028

Olympic spirit is in the air this week, with Milano Cortina 2026 about to kick off in Italy and even more details revealed for the LA28 Olympic & Paralympic Games right here in California. LA28 just revealed that Olympic Soccer events will take place at seven U.S. stadiums during the Games from July 14 to 30, 2028, and one of them is here at San Jose’s PayPal Park. Which stadiums will host Olympic Soccer at LA28? ------------------------------------------------ Preliminary and knockout stages for Olympic Soccer will come to the following stadiums around the United States: * PayPal Park – San Jose, CA * Snapdragon Stadium – San Diego, CA * Etihad Park – New York, NY * ScottsMiracle-Gro Field – Columbus, OH * Geodis Park – Nashville, TN * Energizer Park – St. Louis, MO Final stage matches will take place at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, including gold medal matches for the men’s tournament on July 28th and the women’s tournament on July 29th. The stadiums were carefully chosen based on their existing facilities and capacity for hosting international events. When will the matches take place? --------------------------------- Both men’s and women’s soccer events will take place at the above venues, although official dates and distribution are still TBA. Details will be announced ahead of the first ticket drop in April 2026. Matches will be distributed east-to-west for ease of travel as teams progress to final stages, meaning that the California stadiums will likely host more late-stage matches. LA28 is also considering hosting preliminary soccer matches early , before the Opening Ceremony, so as to increase recovery time. “Bringing Olympic Football group stage and knockout matches to stadiums across the United States means more fans will witness this global event and experience the Olympic spirit firsthand,” said Shana Ferguson, LA28 Chief of Sport and Games Delivery Officer, in a press release. More women’s teams for Olympic Soccer ------------------------------------- LA28 has confirmed that for the first time in Olympic history, the Games will feature more women’s soccer teams than men’s. 16 women’s teams are confirmed to compete, while the men’s competition will feature 12. It’s another feather in the cap for LA28’s record-breaking athlete quota, as LA28 is due to be the first female-majority Olympic Games with 5,333 female athletes to 5,167 male athletes.
