Landmarks Across New York State Will Light Up Blue In Honor Of 9/11
This year marks 24 years since the 9/11 attacks, and landmarks across New York State will light up to commemorate the anniversary. Every year, NYC’s **Tribute in Light** sets the sky aglow with blue twin beams four miles high, which are assembled on the roof of the Battery Parking Garage — right near the 9/11 Memorial & Museum . Likewise, buildings, train stations, bridges, and beyond from the city all the way to Upstate, New York, will follow suit with blue lights of their own. Although this time marks one of the darkest times in our city, state, and nation’s history, this tradition is a way for us to stay resilient and in harmony with one another. Landmarks participating in “Tribute in Light” --------------------------------------------- According to Governor Kathy Hochul’s press office, the following landmarks will light up in blue this year for the 24th anniversary: * Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge * Kosciuszko Bridge * The H. Carl McCall SUNY Building * State Education Building * Alfred E. Smith State Office Building * Empire State Plaza * State Fairgrounds – Main Gate & Expo Center * Niagara Falls * The “Franklin D. Roosevelt” Mid-Hudson Bridge * Grand Central Terminal – Pershing Square Viaduct * Albany International Airport Gateway * Lake Placid Olympic Center * MTA LIRR – East End Gateway at Penn Station * Fairport Lift Bridge over the Erie Canal * Moynihan Train Hall * Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park Should you be in NYC throughout this week, the best places to see the moving Tribute In Lights downtown are as follows: * Battery Park * Brooklyn Bridge Park * Astoria Park * Hoboken Waterfront * Liberty State Park If you are traveling throughout the city on Thursday, note the **9/11 street closures** taking place for the morning ceremony on the grounds. At this time, the MTA has yet to release any service changes ahead of the 9/11 Memorial Ceremonies, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
