✈️ How to Get There: Fly from São Paulo to São Luís, then take a shuttle or Uber pool to Barreirinhas (3.5-hour drive). It’s hard to imagine such a place — where deserts meet lakes, barrenness coexists with swimming fish, and all contradictions blend into one. Upon arrival, it’s surreal to discover such tranquility in vibrant Brazil. 💙 The "Thousand-Lake Desert" has two main areas: Lagoa Azul (Blue Lagoon) Lagoa Bonita (Green Lagoon) Locals call them "Big Sheet" and "Small Sheet." For the Blue Lagoon, I chose a scenic flight to witness the breathtaking views that first drew me here. For the Green Lagoon, I went directly to the lakeshore to experience the desert oasis up close. ❗️ Best Time to Visit: June-July ❗️ The rainy season (January-June) fills the desert with temporary lakes, which gradually shrink under the scorching sun until they disappear.
