Living in Nepal š³šµ: My Favorite Eats in Pokhara
I spent a month living in Nepal, and Pokhara was my longest stay. Hereās a roundup of the tiny, delicious spots I hunted down daily with Google Maps. š± Vegan Way One of my absolute favorites in Pokhara! This vegan restaurant sits right on Phewa Lake. A Bulgarian friend first took me hereāI went in thinking, āUgh, another boring āwhite people mealāāābut was blown away. My go-to? Their mushroom burger, which is incredibly tasty š. For dessert, the brownie is a must, but skip the carrot cake (itās just okay). The second floor has stunning lake viewsādefinitely worth a visit. š Pohkara Backpackerās Cafe I stayed at Pohkara Backpacker, and their courtyard cafe won me over. I have unconditional trust in hostel restaurantsāsometimes theyāre better than dedicated eateries! š This is also fully vegan. Everything I tried (meals and drinks) was greatāyou can order blindly and not go wrong. š Sha County Snack (Chinese Restaurant) One of my top Chinese spots in Pokhara. Anytime I craved familiar flavors, Iād head here. Their pork intestine noodles are chefās kissāclean, well-marinated, and packed with flavor. Bonus: The owner exchanges currency, so Iād often swing by to change money and grab a meal. š¢ Lakefront Kebab Stall No exact address, but wander Phewa Lake and youāll find it. Among the many kebab stands, this one lets you sit on seats made from old boats, munching skewers while watching the sunset. Try the buff (water buffalo) kebabsāsuper flavorful. Iād even sneak out late at night for these š¤¤. š² Himalayan Dorjee Restaurant Right by my regular bus stop, this Tibetan restaurant is a staple in Nepal. I tried their noodle soupāit was delicious, though a bit salty. The chili oil is amazingāgive it a go! š³ Taiwan Cafe Another Chinese favorite! The only downside? The ownerās hours are totally random. But the food? Perfect. Their cake, beef noodle soup, and chicken rice are all incredible š¤¤. The beef in the noodle soup is fall-off-the-bone tender, served with little side dishes š„¹. They open in the afternoonācall ahead to check if theyāre open. š Palpa House Located across from where I took coffee classes, my teacher recommended this spot. It serves authentic local Nepali food, and since mostly locals go here, the service was wonderfully warm. āMam, howās the food? Want more?ā theyād ask. Try the kana set (I canāt remember the exact spelling)āa platter with rice, veggies, meat, and soup. For something new, order the kaja setācrushed, fried rice as the stapleābut I found it a bit odd, not quite like a typical main. P.S. Thereās also Sandwich Point, with a red storefrontācheap and delicious! I forgot to take photos, but if you spot it, give it a try. #Nepal #PokharaTravel #FoodieGuide #TravelEats #NepalFood
